haircuts and heat

We had a pretty busy week and Addison decided to wake up more than usual last night so I am feeling slightly sleep-deprived.

Haley decided to "trim" her hair. Mom "fixed" it and when anyone asked Haley what happened to her hair she gladly said, "My mom cut my hair..." Mmm hmm. It all turned out a little fun because Grandma A. asked if she wanted to go to a salon for her "first" haircut.

Nicole got to go, as well.

She was a little reluctant, but the results were darling.

The weather here has been above three digits all week and it has taken its toll; it left the girls feeling ill for a day and a half. We have adjusted, we hope. While they were under the weather, mom got to read.

We also went to the beach on Saturday, where the weather was a tad more comfortable, and the girls had a great time playing with our friends, the Williamsons. Jeff lost his ipod surfing (long story), the sea air seemed agreeable to Addie, and mom got to read (sorry if I ignored you Holley).

With all that reading, I finished three books this week. The third was Austenland by Shannon Hale and I laughed most of the way through. I tried to explain the humor to Jeff, but having never read Pride and Prejudice, some of it was lost on him. I now have an inclination to watch the BBC adaptation of it. So, if any of you girls out there are interested in a girls movie night, I have a recommendation...And I would also recommend the book. It was fun.

GIANT Spiders and Angels

Whilst mom takes care of Addison...

Haley and Nicole have discovered the spider swing...

We are adjusting to life with three. Many people ask, with a hesitant, all cautious eye, "so Janae, how are you doing?" waiting for the first sign of breakdown, meltdown or any other

downward spiral.

And honestly, I have to say that I am doing well. So far. I am ever grateful that Addie sleeps a lot. My biggest challenge these days is the burgeoning personality of a

two, almost three-year old.

The distractions and play of summer will keep the girls busy. I hope. The weather is finally warming up and we will be spending the summer at the pool, in the sprinklers, at the summer movie special,

and perhaps at the ball park...

Baby and baby teeth

It is true that no pregnancy went on forever, but sometimes it sure felt that way. Addison Kate was born Friday, May 16 at 10:50am. She weighed 8lbs 11 oz. and a week later is 21 inches long. She was six days past her due date. I was able to go into labor on my own, which was a great thing considering the last birth was a c-section and my doctor did not want to induce me this time. So labor and delivery went as well as it possibly could.

She is sleeping well and eating well. Haley and Nicole are also doing really well. Nicole climbs into bed with me every morning and lies next to the baby's bassinet and watches her for about 30 minutes. It is very sweet. She and Haley always want to hold her and they are very gentle. Haley is a great helper, constantly fetching diapers and wipes and clothes for the baby. Nicole is a little obsessed with the baby's pacifier, always trying to give it to her when she doesn't want it. It is wonderful to see how much they have welcomed her into our family. She is "our baby" and according to her two sisters is "so cute."

Haley lost her first baby tooth a little traumatically. She was riding her bike and somehow lost her balance and collided with the handle bars. Luckily, dentist Fred is a friend of ours and took a look at her mouth. He said, despite what it looks like, her teeth will be fine and that the permanent teeth are due to come in soon anyway. So for now, she looks like a little country bumpkin. And she loves this picture.
